When a dreaded monster rears it's ugly head, it's usually in a place we expect, like in a scary movie, behind the dark & creaky staircase.... Or under the old dusty bed in the cob webbed attic. Thats all well and fine for the movies...in fact we welcome it...it keeps us right on the edge of our seats. We wait in the darkness expecting to be startled right out of our skin!! Funniest thing is.... We want it!
But what happens when a real live monster, of a different breed, rears it's ugly head somewhere we least expect it and "in" someone we would last suspect; that monster being cancer? Now we are sitting on the edge of our seats for a whole different reason and this time the anticipation of whats about to happen next is certainly not welcome!
First theres the shock and the horror, our heads spin with every bad thought we can possibly imagine...then there are the tears that flow when the word cancer and all it stands for actually penetrates our brains. It becomes a reality and plays a significant role in all of the lives around the "chosen" one.
We have been raised to believe that God is good and that he would never have had a hand in such a horrific act... but I'm just so tired of hearing well-meaning Christians telling others, "Don't worry, God will never give you more than you can bear." I myself am guilty of it... It sounds encouraging, sounds like it makes sense, right?
Well the word I have decided to spread is: "Don't worry. God will never give you more than He can bear. Lean on him & lean hard."
I have read these words before but until now they never really took form.
A very dear friend of mine has been paid a visit by this ugly monster, it has stricken her with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. Her attitude amazes me... she has such strength, she says "bring it on... I'll beat it, I plan on living until I'm 100"
I'll close with a copy of a circulating email on attitude:
Attitude
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?" So she did and she hada wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?" So she did and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"
Attitude is everything.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I couldn't agree more with "attitude is everything". It always amazes me to watch people go through battles and keep a positive attitude and faith. I can only believe that that attitude comes from a higher power. My prayers are with your friend and her family. I truly believe in the power of prayer.
Yup, attitude is everything. Gotta make friends with the ugly monster...I'm sending healthy thoughts to your friend, too
She is soo strong, we all love her. I know that she will fight and she will live until she is 100, even past that! I keep her in my prayers everyday and never stop thinking about her and the girls.
xoxo
I need to develop a better attitude toward myself. I am reading and listening to cd's that are very helpful...I am sorry I missed you, but understand time constraints. I look forward to seeing you in November. LB
